Background
Chronic or long- standing spine pain includes neck, back, and lower back pain which can be debilitating.
It is the most common pain affliction affecting the elderly. Even physically active patients under 45 years of age can experience this pain.
Approximately 80% of the population will suffer from spine or joint pain at some point in their lives.
Historically severe and long- standing (chronic) neck or back pain has been treated with either long-term medication including anti-inflammatory and other pain killers; or with invasive spinal surgery.
With the recent development of advanced medical imaging / scanning techniques, the field of chronic pain management has been revolutionised by the use of extremely accurate imaging guided spine and joint injections.
These provide a minimally invasive, effective alternative for treating chronic pain.
This imaging guidance technology allows a medical specialist doctor, the Radiologist, to insert a very thin needle under local anaesthetic directly to the exact spot where the pain is originating from, with extreme accuracy.
The pain-relief medication can then be injected directly into the pain source, no matter how deep it is.
